Measuring Liquid Volume

Every year, measurement tends to be the one thing that my students struggle with the most. I'm not sure why, but I think maybe it's that it's just boring. LOL I dunno!

This year, I plan on letting students rotate to several stations and practice estimating how much they think is in a container and then actually measure it out and see. To end the lesson, I made this SCOOT activity as a review! I think it will be a fun way to assess what they learned!

Here are some sample pages from the file! They will then record all their answeres on this recording sheet.

You can purchase this activity for $2.50 in my shop! Just click my button below!

And for you South Carolina third grade teachers, I am still working on this!

It is huge project, so it will take me a while to finish, but I am getting there!

 Leave a comment telling me your favorite way to teach estimating and measuring liquid volume and I will choose one person to win a free copy of my Estimating and Measuring Scoot activity Wednesday, March 11th! Good Luck! {Please leave your email in the comment!}

Text Feature Posters Coming Soon!!

I was so happy with the way the science word wall cards turned out that I thought I would make some Text Feature posters to match the same style! I just might have to do a classroom makeover for this theme and style! I'm kinda lovin' it!

I'm basing these on the ELA Common Core standards so all of the poster words were pulled straight from the K-6 Informational Text standards. I am including two font styles and black and white posters so that you can also use them in your Reading Notebooks. I'm thinking of also creating some smaller ones for all you notebookers! Let me know if you have any suggestions!

On a side note, I'm super bummed that this whole week {including the 4th of July} will be plagued with rain and nasty weather! So much for a good firework show! I was in Key West last year for the 4th and it rained then too! Maybe the weather gods will bless us with no showers on the night of the 4th and we can all enjoy the show!

Anyway, I hope to have these posters completed and posted in a few days!

Project Idea and Text Feature Chart

Hey everyone! I feel like it's been FOREVER since I blogged! I am trying to get all of my parent conferences complete. Hopefully I will have WAY more time to create stuff for you all to use once those are out of the way!

Over the next week, we are doing a Science and Social Studies combined project to get a major grade in both areas. While I attended the SC Social Studies conference, I heard about this menu idea to give students an alternate and differentiated assessment. Even if you don't teach in South Carolina, you could create your own and adapt it for your own needs! Here is an example...
For those of you who teach in South Carolina and would like a copy of this, please just click the picture above to download it. I included two of the same page so you can print two to a page if you wish.

For those of you non-SC teachers, you can also download a copy because I have included a blank template page for you so you can adapt it for yourself!

We are also working on non-fiction text features this week so I created this chart for students to use during their independent reading. Each day, we will look at two text or graphic features on the promethean board and then while they read their books, they will fill in the corresonponding sections we worked on with the title of the book and page number they found an example of each feature on. They will also write how it helped them while they were reading. I will take it up for a grade at the end of the week!

In other news, I am working on a new product that I know I am in desperate need of: The ULTIMATE Early Finisher Pack for Math. It will be Common Core aligned. I am working on the 3-5 version right now and then I will start on the K-2 pack! I plan on using the Common Core standards for each grade level and each CC standard domain as a guide to complete this massive file!

Eventually I hope to complete one for ELA, Science, and Social Studies as well! Here is a preview!

I have only complete the cover page so far. I am still in the brainstorming phase. I'm trying to figure out what all you would like to see included, so you upper elementary teachers, this is where you come in!

What kinds of activities would you like to see included? For example, Sudoku puzzles and number searches...Games? Practice sheets? etc...

Have a great Sunday!! Who else is excited about The Walking Dead tonight!?

Kindergarten Common Core ELA Vocabulary Cards

I am embarking on the task of breaking up my K-2 vocabulary card bundle into Kindergarten, first, and second grade. I just finished the Kindergarten set and it is available in both my shops!

Today's "Win This Product Challenge" is going to be a bit tougher than the last few items! If you aren't familiar, every time I post a new product, I pose a challenge and the first one or two commentors who answer correctly, win the product!

If you do not teach Kindergarten, you can have your pick of your grade level. I have not completed the individual ELA sets for first and second grade. I hope to have those finished tomorrow!

Win This Product Challenge

You must leave a comment stating what you think my favorite ELA strand is. Please also leave your email so I can send you the file of your choice! =)

Strands include Literature, Informational Text, Foundational Skills, Speaking and Listening, Language, and Writing.

The first correct answer wins! When a commentor guesses correctly, I will reply to that commentor and say they were the winner!

Good Luck!!

ELA Common Core Vocabulary Cards for K-2

I made a last minute decision this week to book a flight to Union, MO for one of the Whole Brain Teaching conferences. I AM SO EXCITED!! However, I'm also a little freaked out because I'll be traveling by myself for the first time ever!! AGH! And I hate flying with a serious passion. Seriously. But, I think it will be well worth it! I am so excited to become a whole brain teacher! I keep having dreams about it!

Anyway, point of the post was that I finally finished my ELA vocabulary common core cards for K-2. I haven't split them up yet for individual grades but I plan on doing that sometime today. Hopefully.

And you know I like to give away my stuff free when I first post it so this one is called the font challenge.

The first person to name both fonts pictured below and leave a comment including your e-mail will win a free set of the grades K-2 bundle or if you are upper grades you can win the 3-5 bundle!!

And NO cheating!! Please. =)

Good Luck!
