My creative juices are flowin' y'all! Someone recently posted a picture on facebook about how people swallow six spiders a year. I've always heard this growing up and thought it was horrifying. I immediately thought it was a myth and someone actually posted that it was true. Really?? Well, of course I googled it and found out that it was completely untrue! How hard is it to google people!?
Anyway, the idea for a Fact or Fiction file was born and I started compiling a list of common myths related to animals and insects.
My first file is all about insects! I focused on 6 common insects that people are most familiar with and that were either fact or fiction.
Each article has four response pages about the article.
I think these articles will be a great way to engage students and get them practicing important reading concepts.
I also have a second edition all about animals in the works, so stay tuned in the coming week or so for that.
You can purchase this file in my TPT shop by clicking my blog button below.
Win a copy for yourself by commenting below with your email and what insect you think creeps me out the most!
Also, have you guys heard of Rachel Lamb's VIP table classroom management idea? It's absolutely brilliant! You can check out her post about the VIP table HERE. I will be blogging about how I do the VIP table in the coming week as well and you don't want to miss it!
Thank goodness we don't actually swallow spiders!! I've always hated thinking that was true. I'm going to guess the same insect that creeps me out....cockroaches! Eww!! And the Palmetto bugs are the worst cause they are so ginormous!
ReplyDeleteCockroaches are definitely up there on my list, but not the creepiest in my book! =)
ReplyDeleteI really don't like those big, hovering insects that dig big holes in the grass near the sidewalk. They leave behind a pile of dirt and lay their eggs in the holes. I don't know the name - I always called them "locusts" - they're really big and scary looking. Oh, carpenter bees are scary, too! We still have snow on the ground, but talking about bugs means warm weather is on the way!
ReplyDeleteFlies creep me out. They get into everything!

This new pack of yours will really grab the students' attention! I'm thinking that the big hairy kind of spiders are the ones that creep you out the most. I know they are pretty creepy to me! Looking forward to seeing your animal pack soon!
ReplyDeleteYES! Spiders totally creep me out!! Please reply with your email address and I will send you a copy of the file! =)
DeleteYay!!! This just made my day because I know my students will love these :-) My email is wilsoje@bay.k12.fl.us Thanks so much!

I think cockroaches are your #1 creepiest insect! I know they are mine!! :)

I love this! So cute!!! I could see the boys really getting into this creepiness! I think flies are my least favorite...mainly because I've heard when they land they vomit...and the nastiness of maggots. Eww!!! I saw above that your #1 is spiders...I'm not a fan of those either! ...except for Charlotte! ;)
ReplyDeleteSpiders may be your scariest arachnid, but I am freaked out by the idea of scorpions! (Also arachnids.) Luckily I don't live anywhere near them, but they still scare me to death.
ReplyDeleteThis looks wonderful! Spiders creep me out. A student hid some fake spiders in my desk for April fools, too! Totally had a heart attack. :)

Definitely spiders ... because they creep me out the most! My students know how bad I hate them and always show me pictures in their nonfiction text! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteI think the creepiest insect is the cockroach...especially those large ones that like to lurk around a classroom trying to learn how to read. Ha!
