Fractions!!

We just started our fractions unit this week and one my teammies found Cara Carroll's fractionpillar activity which you can read more about here!

Anyway, I was thinking I wanted to try something different and I was reminded of my friend Lauren, who posted this on TPT recently, which you can buy here.  Isn't it cute!?

But this got me thinking that instead of a fractionpillar, I wanted to do a fraction bot!!

I cut out four different shapes with our die cutter in different colors and instructed students to build a fraction robot with them! I told them they could even cut those shapes into parts if they needed to. Then, they had to write what fraction of the shapes were square, rectangle, triangle, or hexgons! You could adapt by doing the fraction of colors used, or even both for a little challenge!

Here is how some of them turned out!

I love this little short one!

Aren't they cute!?

Here are the cut outs I used. I actually adapted the bottom part a bit to better suit you guys so I hope you can use it! And, it's FREE! =)

  3. yay! I was able to download this one :) except the Fraction Bot didn't come out in that C.U.T.E font you have shown! :( boo...
Also, my friend did her robots, but she just had her kids count the shapes (she's a Kinder teacher), I just love how the same projects can be adapted for all kinds of grades!

    1. The font is CK tools if you want to download it. I also decided I'm just going to start linking freebies into my Teacher's Notebook. It might be easier on me so I don't have to email everyone everything I post something! =)

  5. LOVE IT! And thanks for the shout out!!!! :) My kiddos are playing that game in one of their math tubs this week and they LOVE it. Especially my boys. Their eyes just lit up when I showed it to them! And I love telling them that I made it because they are so proud of me, hahahaha!!! :)

I love the idea of doing the fraction bot instead of the caterpillar! I have Cara's Fraction Action packet, too & we did the caterpillars this time. They turned out so cute! But next time we may do the robots!
