Lesson Plan Template Freebie

I have been wanting to change up my lesson plan template for a while now and finally got busy working on one after I finished my Voyage to the Volcano Novel Study unit, which you can now purchase in both my shops!

Here is my new lesson plan template, inspired by the amazing Kristen from Ladybugs Teacher Files. I just changed the page orientation and started from scratch building my boxes and how I wanted them to look. It took me hours to get it just right!

You can customize it to fit your own classroom.

Here is what mine looks like with actual text in it.

I know, it's a lot of writing! I personally have to have a well written out lesson plan or sometimes, things get left out! We use the Learning Focused model for our lesson plans so AS stands for Activating Strategy, TS stands for Teaching Strategy, and SS stands for Summarizing strategy. Just in case you were wondering...

Just click the blank template above to download your copy!

It is in Word so you can edit the text. If you want the fonts for the templates they are LD Elementary (Lettering Delights - not free) and Minya Nouvelle (Dafont - free). If you don't want to pay for the fonts, just  change them to suit your tastes!

What does your lesson plan template look like? I'd love for you to share yours on your blog also and link back to this post in your comment!

  1. Oooo I love your lesson plan template! I also love how you squeezed so much into your boxes! I feel like I need all of that information on mine too and I never knew how to get it in. Now I know... abbreviations!!!

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. I agree - the volcano unit looks great! When we write lesson plans, we don't include all of the info you did. What do all of your abbreviations stand for? (I'm assuming EQ is essential question and TW/SW are teacher will/students will, but I'm not sure about the rest). Otherwise, I like the box effect and may have to play around with the idea, too!

  9. I like the layout of your lesson plan template...I am always looking for possibilities! However when I downloaded the template Mon.-Wed. were fine, but Thursday was partially on 1 page and the rest on another page. I tried copying and pasting and that didn't work either. Anyone else having trouble or is it just me?!
    Thanks,
    Nancy

    1. It's either because of the page margins (you need to set them to 0.3) or the fonts.

  12. I love the layout! I am always trying to figure out new ways to get it all in. I will post mine over the weekend and link back. (It will take me that long to figure out how to link it!)
    Thanks for sharing.
I am also having a few problems getting the layout to fit just right. I will play with it later in the week. :)

    1. If the layout isn't fitting right, change your page margins to 0.3 on all sides. It could also be the font.

  15. This is so cool great job on the blog page. I so love the lesson plan format. I do have a question about what the AS: TS: and the SS: stand for... On my current plans I have to include the EQ and the SW and TW....

    Thanks,
    Jen

  16. If you adjust the margins to 0.2 - it works in Word and the Thursday is not disjointed!

  18. I LOVE this lesson plan template! It is a lot of writing BUT I think it will lead to better preparation! I am a resource ID teacher and I LOVE the fact that I can take out the times and just list the various group activities that I will do at various times with various groups of kids!. AWESOME!

  19. Today, my principal checked my plans and liked them a lot on the one hand. She complained that they would take up so much paper (5 pages or 3 if double-sided). So, do you have any other templates you use that make a 2 page spread?

    1. Too much space? This template actually saved me paper. In the past, I had printed way more than 5 or had to look at too many pages for one day and it was too much flipping. All of the templates that I use are 1 page spreads. I am sorry! I like to look at 1 day on 1 page.
