I have been working like a mad woman (like that simile!?) to get this unit finished and available for purchase in my Teacher's Notebook store! I have seriously been in a frenzy for the last two days trying to finish it all up. It feels good to have it done!
We are working on characteristics of poetry and devices of figurative language when we return from our Christmas break so I thought I would share the love I've put into it with all of you, for a small fee of course. =)
This colorful unit includes elements of poetry (rhyme, repetition, and stanzas) and activities and poems for teaching similes and metaphors, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, personification, and alliteration!
Head to my store and grab your copy!
When I reach 30 shoppers who have me as a favorite store on Teacher's Notebook, I will be giving away this unit to one lucky liker! =)
To participate in the giveaway, you must either:
1) Add me as a favorite on Teacher's Notebook
2) Like my facebook fan page
3) Tell me your favorite winter writing activity for after the Christmas holidays! (I desperately need your good ideas...)
Or do all of the above for more chances to win!
Oh and don't forget to leave your e-mail in one of the comments!

I've already posted for the giveaway but I just wanted to tell you I really like your blog. Not just the cuteness of it (which would be enough) but I like the items and posts you have posted. I went to a workshop this summer that talked about quality tools, and you are the first one I've seen blog about/use them. I plan on doing more with them in the up coming months. I may be asking for advice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all you do.

ReplyDeleteIn January, I have to start expository writing, but if I didn't, I would write a winter poem.

In January we start expository writing, and I start out with modeling how to write an "All About Penguins" book. Then students choose their own animals to research and write about. After they publish their books, I invite the parents to come in and leave nice comments for the kiddos.

I am so excited about finding this unit!!!! I have just started using Lucy Calkins' units of study and this will go great with my poetry unit! When we get back from break, I am planning on doing some goal setting writing tieing it into New Year's resolutions. There is an adorable door that goes with them on Pinterest!

One of my new favorite writing activities that we just finished up is writing an "In November" story based on the book "In November" by Cynthia Rylant. It's a great start to using figurative language to get ready for poetry. If you want more info on what I do, send me an email and I can pass along what I have! My 2nd graders did such a nice job with their stories!
