Measuring Liquid Volume

Every year, measurement tends to be the one thing that my students struggle with the most. I'm not sure why, but I think maybe it's that it's just boring. LOL I dunno!

This year, I plan on letting students rotate to several stations and practice estimating how much they think is in a container and then actually measure it out and see. To end the lesson, I made this SCOOT activity as a review! I think it will be a fun way to assess what they learned!

Is this thing on??

So, I have been so busy being a new mama to this sweet little pumpkin that I haven't had much time for blogging or creating, but I am finally trying to get the hang of balancing mommyhood and teacherdom.

Isn't she the cutest? =)

Anyway, I have been working on a new product that I have had stewing around in my head for a while. I actually tried to start something very similar several months back, but I lost it when my hard drive went kaput! Anyway, this new file will be for those South Carolina teachers out there. I wanted to put together some non-fiction articles to teach about all things South Carolina!

This will be a huge project and I problably won't be finished for a while because of the number of articles I want to include, but I will eventually have it posted. I wanted to give my bloggy friends a little sneak peek!

For each article, I am trying to make varied response pages so they aren't just the same thing each time. I am including practice with text features, making outlines, comparing and contrasting, context clues, main idea, details, cause and effect, summarizing, questioning, etc...

Let me know if there is anything else you might want to see included in the set!

Multiplication Freebie

As you may have noticed, my blog has recieved a little makeover! I love it! Thanks to Megan Favre at a A Bird in Hand Designs!

I have just returned from my maternity leave and man did I miss my kiddos!! To help my kids really learn their facts, we always do weekly timed tests starting with 0's and 1's and then moving up each week. As kids pass each test, they color in a section of their multiplication sundae sheets. You can see the example below! 

At the end of the year, we have an ice cream sundae party to celebrate!

Here is the checklist I use to keep track so students don't try to cheat on their coloring sheets. =)

I created my own timed tests to use. The students just fill in what math fact they are on in the first column and then I call out the second factor. When they have done that, they turn their papers over and I set a timer for a given amount of time. I usually give them a minute and a half. You can do what is best for you. I collect all of the papers when the timer goes off. They must correctly answer all 13 questions to pass.

She's Here!

Baby Gracen was born on November 3 at 4:51 p.m. She weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and measured 20 inches long! Mommy and daddy are doing great! We are learning to adjust to life with little sleep! lol

We are so in love! 

I probably won't be blogging much in the coming weeks (not like I blogged much before), but I hope to get back into the swing when she gets a little older and life is a little less chaotic!

Halloween Freebie!

I am soooooo close to being ready to pop out this baby. I'm 12 days away from my due date and I couldn't be more ready for it to happen! I cannot wait to meet her!

I've walked and walked. Spicy food? Check. Pressure points? Yep. Did that too. Annnd some other things...lol 

Alas, she isn't ready to make her way into the world yet. She's too cozy up in there! I've decided to put my energy to work and finish a little freebie I've been working on for about two weeks. 

I thought it would be fun to have the kids read about the History of Halloween since most kids don't realize that it started as a harvest festival. I might have learned a thing or two also!
